2027 Economic Outlook

Calgary Economic Development brings its annual forecast event back to the BMO Centre on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, and the framing this year is blunt: the city is planning through what the organizers call “increasing geopolitical and economic uncertainty,” and the room wants numbers rather than mood.
2027 Economic Outlook, powered by ATB, opens with a networking reception at 1:00 pm before the official program runs 2:00–4:00 pm. The afternoon pairs hard forecasting with an argument about what the forecast means.
ATB Financial chief economist Mark Parsons delivers the data keynote on Alberta’s trajectory — growth, labour, investment and the pressures shaping all three. Former Alberta premier Jason Kenney follows with a keynote on the forces reshaping the provincial economy, and Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas offers remarks on the city’s position heading into the new year.
The panel then takes the numbers apart:
- Candace Laing — President & CEO, Canadian Chamber of Commerce
- Martha Hall Findlay — University of Calgary
- Sandi Gilbert — CEO, InterGen
- Jen Gerson — Co-founder, The Line (moderator)
Expect the conversation to land on regional competitiveness — whether Calgary is actually winning the investment and talent it says it is, what trade and policy volatility costs an export-weighted economy, and where the next cycle of capital is going. Gerson is not a moderator who lets an answer slide, which is most of the reason to be in the room.
