Shedding Some Light On Calgary Brand Builders

Kevin Halliday didn’t set out to become a podcast host—he just wanted real conversations about building businesses in Calgary. What started as casual talks in his backyard shed has grown into Shed Talks, a platform where entrepreneurs, innovators and industry leaders share the unfiltered stories behind their success.

The format is simple: no studio polish, no corporate speak—just honest dialogue about what it takes to grow and scale in this city. Halliday sits down with the people shaping Calgary’s business landscape, one conversation at a time.

From the shed to the page, here’s what three of his guests are building—homes, legacies and possibilities.

Terry Healy

Author of The Resilience

Mindset Terry Healy survived 30 facial surgeries, a rare fibrosarcoma, and the emotional roller coaster that followed. After being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at 21 years old, his doctor said “we’ll fix you.” When the tumor came back, Terry found himself missing half of his nose, the shelf of his right eye, the muscle and bone of the right cheek, part of his upper lip and hard palate, and six teeth. He also needed a skin graft.

While his doctors reassured him that his cancer would be cured, the process was not a speedy one, and Terry’s self-esteem took a hit. “You’re very protected and insulated in your hospital bed,” he explained. “But you go down to the waiting area and suddenly it was like people staring at me. And so suddenly I’m like, whoa, this is bad.”

To help him regain confidence, Terry relied on his superpower: his focus, his mindset, and his goals. He utilized practices like gratitude and visualization to achieve a more positive way of thinking and build his brand. Today, Terry is an author, keynote speaker, and business strategist inspiring audiences to use the same positive mindset and goals to overcome adversity and build resilience.

Cameron Herold

Author of 7 bestselling books

Cameron Herold is an entrepreneurial visionary and one of the founders of junk removal franchise 1-800-GOT-JUNK and the West Coast arm of College Pro Painters. Here he created a cult-like company culture for his brand, where his “obsession” with shaping the company’s core values ultimately led to $40 million in revenue and would-be employees picketing outside of the office for the chance at a role. 1-800-GOT JUNK ranked as the number two company in all of Canada to work for and had indeed become a cult brand.

Cameron credits the company’s success to his idea of a “vivid vision” held by himself and his co-founders. By creating a four-page description of what the company looked like, acted like, and felt like three years into the future, Cameron got natural buy-in from his team and built up the brand. Today, Cameron still believes crafting a detailed vision for the future can help transform both your business and your life. He looks for ways to “solve life by design” and spends his time coaching, networking, and helping other entrepreneurs bring their own visions to life.

Kevin Lawrence

Lawrence & Co.

Kevin Lawrence knows burnout isn’t a badge of honor – it’s a warning sign. As a top leadership coach and bestselling author of “The Four Forces of Growth,” Kevin helps high-performance men handle pressure. As a leadership coach, he teaches CEOs and leaders to recognize burnout in themselves and others. Across the spectrum, the signs of burnout can include changes like panic attacks, trouble sleeping, anxiety, and social withdrawal. These changes occur across a spectrum, which he says goes from green to yellow, orange, and red. Kevin says that paying attention to these signs, doing regular check ups, and rebuilding resilience can help leaders build a business and a life at the same time.

“Think of someone as being a five-year-old child who’s innocent and wanting their best and needs support and is scared,” he explains. “If you connect with that part of every person, because that’s kind of what’s happening inside them, you just hold their hand and walk down the path with them.”

Kevin suggests his clients add one resilience ritual to their daily routine, spot their colour on the mental-health continuum, or reach out to a trusted coach or peer. He reminds them that no high performer stands alone, and CEOs need a team of mentors, counselors, peers, and supportive community members to keep themselves, and their organization, standing.
